CSU Trustees’ Award

Nursing student Ava Holland has been named Stanislaus State’s 2025 Trustees’ Scholar, the CSU system’s highest student honor. A Sonora native and sophomore in the University’s competitive nursing program, Holland was recognized by the CSU Board of Trustees for her academic excellence, resilience and service to others. She is one of just 23 students statewide selected for this distinction.

Referral Program

Stanislaus State is tapping into its strongest advocates – alumni – through its ‘Refer a Warrior’ program, which allows them to recommend prospective students via a simple online form. The initiative strengthens recruitment through family, workplace and community connections, offering one solution as college campuses navigate enrollment pressures.

Warriors Remember Donna Pierce

Stan State is mourning the loss of longtime supporter Donna Pierce, who passed away Sept. 7 at age 81. A fixture at campus events, Pierce was known for her generosity, boundless energy and gift for building community. Her legacy lives on in the Wayne and Donna Pierce Trans-California Pathway and the Friends of Donna Pierce Study Room in the Vasche Library. In recognition of her lifelong devotion, the University lowered flags to half-staff, and student-athletes will be honored as “Donna Pierce Warriors of the Week.”

Central Valley To Nigeria

Stanislaus State geography professor Augustine “Austin” Avwunudiogba has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright U.S. Scholar Grant to teach and conduct research in Nigeria in 2026. His work will link Stan State students with peers abroad through global learning projects while addressing issues like urban flood hazards that connect to challenges here in the Central Valley.
