As the region winds its way through summer, the Escalon Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Farmers Market continues to draw plenty of patrons and vendors alike.
The fourth of five market nights was staged on a relatively cool summer evening, Wednesday, July 16. Hours were 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the market was set up in the city’s Main Street Park. They have been hosted the third Wednesday of the month since April and the final installment for this year is on the schedule for Aug. 20.
There were some produce booths, including those specializing in organic produce, along with the Stuyt Dairy Farmstead Cheese booth, free waters and Gatorades provided by Escalon Strong, some young businesswomen with booths featuring candle dipping and button making, and more. Organizers have worked to rotate the merchandise vendors to provide a wide variety each month.
Some handcrafted items were on display and for sale at booths this month, in addition to sensory dough, fresh flowers, olive oil, homemade treats and sweets, sourdough bread and more.
The popular food court area had wood fired pizza, Tacos de Nieve, Flip ‘n Fry and other options, while drinks ranged from lemonade to coffee, and the familiar Kettle Corn booth returned as well.
Live music is a staple at the market nights and Chamber officials have also introduced a crowd favorite event; those who make a purchase at a booth get a ticket to drop in to a drawing for gift certificates to a number of the vendors taking part in that evening’s market.
This past week, certificates from four different vendors were available in the drawing and Chamber spokesperson Megan McNinch said they plan to have others featured for the final market night in August.
