The Escalon Chamber of Commerce is planning a Meet the Candidates event later this month.

On Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Escalon Community Center, the Chamber will be hosting a “Candidates for City Council Forum.” This will be an opportunity to meet the candidates and hear their views on topics important to the City.

“Each candidate will be given two minutes for an opening statement at the start of the forum and one minute for a closing statement at the end,” explained Chamber spokesperson Pat Brown. “Each candidate will have one minute to respond. The time limit for the forum is one hour and we will ask as many questions as possible during that time limit.”

To that end, the Chamber is looking for questions to be posed to the candidates.

“We are asking the public to participate by sending relevant questions that affect our community to either our website escalonchamberofcommerce.org or to our PO Box 222, Escalon 95320,” added Brown. “Questions we receive by September 15 will be reviewed by our forum committee and may be used at the event.”

Those seeking the two available four-year terms on the council are incumbents Ed Alves and Robert Swift, along with challengers Peter Krumeich, Will Smith and Richard Percey. Previously announced candidate Stephanie Ennis Wiensz released a statement this past week withdrawing from the race.

“Due to personal health reasons I have decided not to run for City Council. I appreciate all the support I received,” Ennis Wiensz said in her statement.

Following the council forum on Sept. 19, those attending will be able to meet informally with the candidates. Refreshments will also be served.
