Quarterfinal round games for varsity basketball squads

Escalon’s varsity girls and boys continue their basketball seasons on Thursday night, Feb. 15 by virtue of first round victories.

Hosting a rare playoff doubleheader in the Cougar Dome on Tuesday, Feb. 13, the varsity girls were winners over Sac High, the boys defeated Marysville.

The Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 contests saw the number three seed Lady Cougars outscore the number 14 Sac High Dragons by a 59-37 final. They took the court first, followed by the varsity boys. The number five seed Cougar boys posted a 63-53 win over number 12 Marysville in the Tuesday game.

Thursday at 6 p.m., the varsity Lady Cougars host number 11 Sonora in a quarterfinal contest. Sonora upset number six Liberty Ranch in the first round, 53-51.

The varsity boys travel to nearby Ripon to face off with their league foe for the third time this season. Ripon, coming in at number four, put away number 13 Ben Holt Academy 63-39 in the first round. The game at Ripon is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip off time.
