Modesto gas prices have risen 9.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.30/gallon, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations. Gas prices in Modesto are 21.8 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, and stand 3.0 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto is priced at $3.06/gallon while the most expensive is $3.69, a difference of 63.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state as of March 25 was $2.79/gallon while the highest was $4.99, a difference of $2.20/gallon. The cheapest price in the entire country stands at $1.12/gallon while the most expensive is $5.04/gallon, a difference of $3.92.
The national average price of gasoline has risen 6.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.62/gallon. The national average is up 22.2 cents per gallon from a month ago, yet stands 2.1 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
Over the past decade, the lowest price recorded in the Modesto area on March 25 was in 2009, at a cost of $2.13/gallon, with the U.S. average on that date $1.98/gallon. The highest price for March 25 was in 2012, $4.25/gallon with the U.S. average measured at $3.90/gallon.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $3.35/gallon, up 13.5 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.22; Oakland - $3.49, up 10.9 cents per gallon from $3.38; San Jose - $3.50, up 12.5 cents from last week’s $3.38/gallon.
“Gasoline prices have increased in all 50 states in the last week as refineries continue working toward cleaner, more expensive gasoline and as oil prices have continued creeping higher,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “There shouldn’t be any surprises that prices continue to migrate higher given the warnings in the past few months, though that doesn’t make it any easier for motorists to digest higher gas prices. Unfortunately as seasonal issues continue to weigh on markets along with higher oil prices, it’s likely we’ll continue to be in this pattern for at least a few more weeks.”
