Escalon residents will have the chance to get an up close and personal look at their police department this weekend.

"We will be showcasing the department, its members, as well as the physical plant," Police Chief Milt Medeiros said of the Saturday, Oct. 20 Open House at the station, 2040 McHenry Ave.

"This is the first time we have done something like this, we have a lot of new equipment and we want people to see the facility."

The hours for the open house are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Medeiros said the entire community is invited to come in and see the station as well as various upgrades the department has made over the last several months. That includes on board video systems in the patrol cars, new tasers, additional radio equipment and more.

"We will have our officers here, some of our reserves, Explorers, volunteers, Animal Control and we may have some allied agencies as well, the fire department has confirmed they will be here."

Medeiros said police department personnel will meet and greet the public and offer information and do some demonstrations.

"We will have people doing department tours, there will be refreshments," Medeiros explained. "It's a means for us to have the community come into our house, see what we have here, the training the officers go through."

The chief said he's not sure what type of turnout to expect, though he'd like to see as many people as possible come to the department to learn more about what the police do in the community.

"We'd like to interact with the public in this informal setting," he said. "I'd love to see it well attended."
