The Modesto Junior College Community Orchestra, directed by Professor Anne Martin, presents a concert entitled “Godzilla vs. Grieg” on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Performing Arts Center on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto.
Tickets are available at the door for $5 general admission and $2 for seniors and students of all ages. No permit is required for campus parking around the Auditorium for the evening of the performance.
The concert opens with Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suite.” The program also includes “Dance of the Blessed Spirits” by Gluck, “Andaluza” by Granados and “On the Trail,” composed by Ferde Grofe.
The concert concludes with “Godzilla.” This arrangement by Michael Story features the main title theme “Godzilla!” as well as “The Power Plant,” “Golden Gate Chaos” and “Back to the Ocean.”
The MJC Community Orchestra membership includes college students, high school students, teachers, local professional musicians, business owners, a lawyer, a farm manager, an information technology consultant, engineers, an anesthesiologist and a pilot. Also coming up, the Modesto Junior College Department of Music presents “Do You Know the Wave” - Electronic Music Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The concert is open to the public and admission is free with donations gratefully accepted. No permit is required for the campus parking lot next to the Recital Hall for the evening of the performance.
The concert features original electronic music compositions created by student composers from the Electronic Music 2 class. The composers featured are Junyang Chen, Shane Ellis, Xitlaly Hernandez, Marc Kindley, Daniel Ruiz, Jonathan Ruiz, Joshua Sigman, Joseph Walker and Kyle Yousif.
The music is created using synthesizers, computer-controlled synthesizers, samplers and digital effects. Some of the compositions are performed live while others are pre-recorded performances. Special lighting effects, video displays and slides accompany the compositions.
The MJC Electronic Music Studio director, David Dow, is also performing an original electronic music composition on the program.
