Opportunity Stanislaus Receives Funding To Assist Businesses

Opportunity Stanislaus was recently awarded funding from the Economic Development Administration to help improve circumstances related to COVID-19 for local businesses and to create a plan for future economic stability during times of crisis.

The awarded funding, in the amount of $158,293, is intended to fund meetings with businesses to determine how they have been and continue to be impacted by the pandemic and refer them to community resources including Opportunity Stanislaus assistance.

Opportunity Stanislaus Chief Executive Officer David White expressed his excitement over the grant.

“We have worked since mid-March last year to help businesses recover from the challenges presented by Covid-19,” said White. “We started websites with resources for both businesses and the general public; created informational commercials and online training programs and devoted significant staff time to provide relief and we see this as a way to continue provision of relief.”

Congressman Josh Harder responded to a request for comments about the award saying, “Our small businesses have taken hit after hit during this pandemic. We have to do everything we can to help them stay open and protect their jobs as we work on vaccinating the Valley and reopening our economy. I know how hard it is to run a small business, and I’m going to find every resource I can to make sure Stanislaus and San Joaquin can rebuild our local economy and come out of this disaster stronger than ever. This funding should help us through these final tough months.”

Opportunity Stanislaus has contracted with Strategic Solutions to spearhead efforts around surveying companies and creating a plan that increases the capability of the region to respond to future crises of high magnitude. Work on the grant has already begun and Opportunity Stanislaus already has plans to start meeting with businesses.
