A love of music and an affinity for the small town of Escalon combined to bring cousins Jessica and Ty Byrd to Main Street, where they have set up Byrd's Main Street Music.

Located at 1724 Main, the business offers all types of guitar lessons and also teaches students about reading and writing music. Classical, flamenco, rock, blues and country are just a few of the styles the cousins can teach guitar players.

"Right now we do private lessons and we have a pretty open schedule, we'd like to fill it up," said Jessica. "We just do everything, from classical to folk an we invite people to come in, just listen to us play."

The cousins were taking advantage of the spring-like warmth and sunshine on Thursday, outside the shop, strumming their guitars and singing while waiting for their next student to arrive for class.

They also do private parties, hiring out their musical skills.

Jessica previously worked in Modesto but has many students from this area and the two decided to open up shop in Escalon.

"I have a lot of classical knowledge, he has more rock and blues," Jessica explained.

Ty said he has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the community over the last few months.

"I love this town because it's so classic," he said, waiting for a train to rumble by before continuing. "My favorite thing was Christmas on Main and I like the kids, I like spreading music, letting people know that music's not dead."

The two offer classes for both children and adults and work with some special needs children as well.

"We've had people tell us 'thank you for bringing music to Escalon'," Jessica said.
