Escalon Historical Museum will observe its 35th anniversary in October. The celebration to mark the occasion is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; the museum is at 1630 Main.
Recognition for special honorees and charter members of the Escalon Historical Society and Museum will be recognized at 2 p.m., said officials, and there will be plenty of opportunity to tour the museum and see the wide variety of exhibits and memorabilia celebrating the rich history and notable residents of Escalon.
There will be commemorative engraved ink pens for purchase in honor of the anniversary. Light refreshments will be served.
In addition to the Open House, society officials have started selling tickets for the annual opportunity drawing for a painting.
This year, the painting is one by local artist Janet Spooner, who has lived in Escalon for over 55 years and is a member of the Oak Valley Art Society. Her oil painting is entitled “Springtime in Knights Ferry” and tickets will be for sale at $5 each. The drawing for the painting will be held during the Christmas on Main event, set for Saturday, Dec. 7. The museum will be open that day and the drawing is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Proceeds raised through the sale of tickets will go toward 2025 scholarships to be presented by the Escalon Historical Society to graduating students.
Regular hours at the museum are Wednesdays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.
Leading the historical society are President David Russell; Vice President Barbara Langum, Secretary Cathy Ensley; Treasurer Adrian Van Houten; Curator Dorothy Miller; Historian Wendy Fenton. Also, Russell serves as webmaster and Fenton oversees the organization’s Facebook account.
The first Wednesday of the month is observed as Reminisce Day and everyone is welcome to attend and hear stories of Escalon. The next monthly meeting at the museum is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m.
