Prices at the pump in Modesto are 15.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 74.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago at this time. Average gasoline prices in Modesto fell 0.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.22/gallon as of Aug. 19, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto.
Meanwhile, the national average price of diesel has declined 2.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.69 per gallon, the lowest level in 940 days.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.59/gallon while the most expensive was $5.19, a difference of $1.60/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $3.59 while the highest was $6.79, a difference of $3.20/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 4.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.37/gallon. The national average is down 11.4 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 47.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.34/gallon, up 6.6 cents from last week’s $4.28; Oakland - $4.63, up 3.5 cents per gallon from $4.59; and San Jose - $4.48, down 4.7 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.52/gallon.
“Gasoline and diesel prices continue to trail off across much of the country as summer demand fades away. Lower demand in other oil-consuming nations is also helping to lead the downward pressure on pump prices as we approach Labor Day,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back 10 years show the highest Modesto price was $5.11 per gallon on Aug. 19, 2022 and the lowest was $2.43 in 2016. Highest national average price was $3.89 in 2022, lowest was $2.15 per gallon in 2016.
