June 21 through 27 is National Mosquito Control Awareness Week and San Joaquin County Mosquito and Vector Control District (District) will be distributing mosquitofish free to residents of all cities and surrounding rural areas within San Joaquin County.

In the city of Escalon, mosquitofish will be distributed in the Hogan Park parking lot today, Wednesday, June 24 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., adjacent to the Community Center.

Ideal places to use mosquitofish to prevent mosquito development are ornamental ponds, animal water troughs, and neglected swimming pools. A maximum of 15 fish will be provided to each resident as long as supplies last. Residents will be asked to provide name, address and location where fish will be placed. Mosquitofish can be an effective tool to reduce the mosquito population, in turn reducing the chance of spreading West Nile Virus.
