If you are interested in becoming a ‘Master Gardener’ you can sign up for training that is due in January, 2022.

Submit your application by Tuesday, Aug. 31; read more about the training and volunteer opportunity at

Training is provided through the University of California Cooperative Extension, UCCE, and those trained as master gardeners go on to volunteer in a variety of ways, such as encouraging healthy environments with sustainable gardening, green waste reduction and water conservation.

Also, those interested can also sign up now for a free, fun, in person class to learn gardening basics, offered through the UCCE Master Gardener Program. The Fall Vegetable Gardening Class is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 31 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Stanislaus County Ag Center, Harvest Hall Rooms D and E, 3800 Cornucopia Way, Modesto. Sign up online at or call Misael Canales at 209-525-6804 to reserve your space. Registered participants will receive free seed packets to get their vegetable gardens started. A handout will also be provided so those attending the class can follow along with the instructors.
