Signaling the official start of the holiday season, Escalon will offer its 'Christmas on Main' on Saturday, Dec. 4 with festivities kicking off at mid-afternoon.

Vendor booths will open at about 3:30 p.m. and there will also be activities for children, music and the annual holiday light parade, with that stepping off at 5:30 p.m.

Santa will be on hand to visit with the children, fire pits will be set up in the city's Main Street Park for making s'mores and the entire family is invited to come join in the celebration.

The community Christmas Tree, sponsored by the Escalon Lion's Club, will be on display by the historic caboose as well.

Musicians scheduled to perform on stage include the guitar students of Jessica Byrd from 3:30 p.m. to about 4:15 p.m., then LilLana Cajias offering 'an acoustic Christmas' with guitar and singing from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.

"We're already up to 17 vendor booths, and most are local," noted Robert Swift, one of the coordinators of the Christmas on Main event. "We also have a lot of non-profit community groups that will be there, churches, the Outlaws youth football."

Non-profit groups will be offering some food for sale and activities, while other vendors will have small items for sale, perfect to start the holiday shopping.

Community service clubs like the Lions, Kiwanis and Rotary will also be on hand and the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the annual event.

"I think we have most of our bases covered," said Swift. "Come early and enjoy it."

The Christmas on Main is scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the end time often depending on the weather. The light parade is at 5:30 p.m. and those interested in joining that can contact Swift at 595-5013 or get in touch with June Lopez at Oak Valley Community Bank.
