As it happened in 2019, so it is happening in 2022.

Escalon Chamber of Commerce has had to move its Christmas on Main celebration from Saturday, Dec. 10 to Sunday, Dec. 11, as most of the community will be at Engel Field on the Escalon High School campus on Saturday night. That’s when the varsity football team will be playing for a state championship, hosting Northwood of Irvine in the 4-AA title game.

Organizers of the Christmas on Main festivities had already set Sunday, Dec. 11 as a ‘rain date’ and are utilizing that secondary date so as not to conflict with the football game.

The event schedule remains the same, with booths opening in the city’s Main Street Park at 3 p.m., performances on the Main Street stage beginning at 3:30 p.m. and the Parade of Lights stepping off at 5:30 p.m.

Taking the stage from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. will be Gwen Rhoten; members of the Escalon Fun Bunch will entertain with some Christmas carols from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and the Escalon High School choir will perform at 4:30 p.m.

Santa Claus will be part of the parade, riding the entire route and then getting off the second time around to take a seat on the stage and visit with local youngsters and pose for photos.

Along with the entertainment and parade, there will be food trucks, several fire pits set up in the park for cooking up s’mores, a snowman contest among downtown businesses and multiple vendors for holiday shopping. There will also be crafts for the kids, the giving trees and the chance for residents to enjoy sharing in the holiday atmosphere.

The Christmas on Main is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday; for additional information, contact Debbie Murken at 209-402-0505.
