Uber Service Introduced Through County Transit

San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) and Uber are working together to bring residents to the places they want to go. Effective this week, many passengers can save 50 percent, up to $5 per ride, when riding with Uber in San Joaquin County.

Many people in San Joaquin County need a ride but live outside the area serviced by RTD buses. The “RTD GO!” promotion on Uber will enable people to travel from outside the normal RTD service area to popular destinations in San Joaquin County for less, according to RTD Chief Executive Officer, Donna DeMartino.

“RTD GO!” is available in San Joaquin County, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.

This schedule adds transportation options both earlier and later than most regular RTD service.

“Everyone at RTD is thrilled to work with our friends at Uber to make new transportation options available throughout San Joaquin County,” said DeMartino. “This pilot program will help increase, ‘The Places You Can Go on RTD!’”

Chuck Winn, Chair of the Board of Supervisors, added, “I am greatly appreciative of the efforts by RTD to initiate a pilot program with Uber to meet the transportation needs of San Joaquin County residents. Transportation is constantly evolving and I am always encouraged by the willingness of RTD staff and their Board of Directors to look for more efficient and cost-effective ways to meet the transportation challenges of our various communities.”

People who do live in RTD’s service area can also save. To qualify for the promotion within the regular RTD service area, you must be going to or be picked up at a participating transit station.

Saving with “RTD GO!” is easy, said officials. Passengers simply use the Uber app on their smartphone. The promotion will be applied automatically.

The new “RTD GO!” is a pilot program. For additional information, including accessible services and how the new partnership works, visit www.sjRTD.com/uber.
