Members of the Escalon American Legion Post 263 Colorguard were on hand Friday night, Aug. 25, to present the colors prior to the start of the varsity football game at Engel Field. After they marched out to midfield, PA announcer Greg Largent asked for a moment of silence in memory of two Cougar supporters lost in the past year – longtime Escalon High School teacher and coach Mike Backovich and Larry ‘Bullwinkle’ Wilson, who kept tackle charts at EHS varsity games and also served as a spotter in the broadcast booth. Both men passed away since last football season and the opening game featured the brief time of reflection and remembrance in their honor.
