From First Street to California, from Sophie Lane to Yosemite, shoppers had a heyday on Saturday.
It was Escalon’s annual City Wide Yard Sale and, along with the roughly 100 addresses listed on the map for sales, others were available at a variety of locations, with some multi-family sales and local venues providing a showcase for out-oft-city-limits residents to bring their wares to show and sell.
The weather was favorable for a day of shopping, and local streets were at times hazardous to navigate, packed with cars, bicycles, skateboarders and pedestrians, all looking to get some great bargains.
City sale hours were 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and officials said it appeared as though the crowds were good throughout the day, with heavy traffic volume in and around the city.
“We do this every year,” said Crystal Mancilla, hosting a multi-family sale on Judith. “We get rid of stuff and spend time with the family.”
Also enjoying a day in search of treasure was Deanna Ricks of Waterford.
“My parents live in Hughson and they always come,” she explained. “I have not been here before but my mom and dad have, multiple times, there is a lot of great stuff.”
Some of the larger sales featured furniture, housewares, electronics and more, with a couple of vehicles also seen with ‘for sale’ signs in the community. In some areas, youngsters had cleaned out their toy boxes and closets, adding their outgrown toys and clothes to the family sale to earn a few dollars.
There were also some locations that served up refreshments for shoppers as they browsed and – hopefully – bought items to take home.
