Construction on the campus of Escalon High School may have forced clubs and organizations to squeeze in to limited space on the quad, but it didn’t put a damper on the enthusiasm of students.

Hosted during lunch on Friday, Sept. 8, the Club Rush gave all the on-campus groups the chance to showcase their organization, look for prospective new members and raise some money with sales of various items.

“One day a year we can bring in food and we were going to do this on the softball field but there was no access to power because of the construction,” said Student Activities Director and ASB Advisor Michelle Canfield. “But we have 16 different student organizations and clubs here.”

From the FFA to the Friends Helping Friends, the Yearbook Club to the Art Club, students had the chance to learn about the variety of opportunities available to them. There was also a football toss hosted by Army recruiters, the FFA offered popcorn, Art Club was doing airbrush tattoos, the ASB kids were serving up root beer floats.

“It’s a great way to bring all the students together,” Canfield said.

Junior Kimberly Dick, the ASB Clubs Commissioner, was among those that helped to organize the Club Rush event.

“We asked all the clubs to get involved, it was a way to fundraise to help their club,” Dick said.

The event went off well, with many students opting to stay on campus and buy something to eat at the Club Rush while they learned more about the activities of each organization.

Canfield said the ASB also wants to offer other activities, such as putting on a dodgeball tournament pitting students vs. staff and they also are doing video announcements on Fridays, as opposed to just the audio announcements.

“We do have a lot of things planned,” Canfield added. “Our goal is to grow the (ASB) program.”
