Sober Grad Fundraiser On January Schedule

The annual Sober Grad ‘Curbside To Go’ Tri Tip Drive-Thru Dinner is coming up later this month and now is the time to get your tickets.

“We still need people to help sell tickets,” said Sober Grad committee member Debbie Leal. “Seniors get credit, for every five dinner tickets they or their parents sell, they get five dollars off their Sober Grad (admission) ticket.”

Seniors that come and help hand out food the day of the event can also earn dollars off the ticket price for the graduation night party for the EHS Class of 2016. Seniors can work the day of the event between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. helping deliver the dinners.

“They need to sign up with me or Tammy Alcantor,” Leal said.

The popular Tri Tip Drive-Thru event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Sober Grad committee and helps them put on the all-night grad party, offering seniors a way to celebrate their graduation in a safe, fun, sober environment with classmates.

Cost of a drive thru dinner ticket is $40 and that includes a full meal for four, featuring a whole tri tip, four baked potatoes, a loaf of French bread, a bag of salad and a two-liter bottle of soda.

This year’s drive thru is set for Saturday, Jan. 23. Those purchasing tickets can drive up curbside at El Portal Middle School and the dinner will be delivered to their vehicle.

Leal said tickets should be purchased by Jan. 10.

Typically the event sees about 200 tickets sold and Leal said the drive thru has been a solid Sober Grad fundraiser for many years.

“It has been going longer than I have been involved,” she noted. “Debbie Veenstra started it many moons ago.”

For more information, to purchase tickets or to sign up to work, contact Leal at 209-639-2513 or Alcantor at 209-480-3728.

“It’s our biggest fundraiser, we really appreciate the community’s support,” Leal said.
