Sober Grad Drive-Thru Scheduled In January
ehs

The biggest fundraiser of the year for the Escalon Sober Grad committee isn’t until January, but residents can support it now – and pick up a holiday gift at the same time.

Organizers have tickets available for the annual “Curbside To Go” tri-tip dinner and Debbie Leal noted it’s a great holiday gift for that hard-to-buy-for person on your gift list.

The tickets are $40 and include a whole barbecued tri-tip, four baked potatoes, a loaf of French bread, a bag of salad and a two-liter bottle of soda. The meal for four is delivered to your car, curbside, at El Portal Middle School the day of the event. Proceeds help pay for the annual graduation night Sober Grad party put on for members of the senior class at Escalon High School.

The goal of the committee is to, according to their mission statement, “save lives by providing a substance-free, all night event for graduating high school seniors.”

The night is supported by parents and school staff, along with the local community and many businesses.

Tickets can be purchased online at https://squareup.com/market/ehs-sober-grad or by contacting co-organizers Leal at 209-639-2513 or Tammy Alcantor at 209-480-3728

The ticket price rises to $45 on or after Jan. 16 but can be purchased now, especially for holiday gift giving, for $40.

The drive-thru dinner itself is set for Saturday, Jan. 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at El Portal. Seniors can earn money off their ticket to attend Sober Grad by doing pre-sale of tickets for the dinner and also by working a shift at the drive-thru event.

“This is our main fundraiser for the Sober Grad event,” Leal noted. “These tickets make great Christmas gifts for your daycare operator, hairdresser, family, neighbors, friends, etc.”
