Friday was a flurry of activity for many schools, including both Collegeville and Van Allen within the Escalon Unified School District.

Along with being the final day of classes until Jan. 3, 2017, the last school day featured Christmas programs put on by students at both elementary schools. Other schools in the district previously had festivities, with the outlying Collegeville and Van Allen sites opting for the Friday shows.

At Collegeville, the program featured musical numbers by the TK and Kindergarten classes together, while the first graders sang some songs as well. The second and third graders combined to put on a production of Whoville Comes to Collegeville, complete with a visit from the Grinch. Fourth graders raised their voices in song and the fifth graders utilized their ukuleles and guidance from teacher Mr. Silver to perform a Hawaiian piece and a song in Spanish. Teachers Mrs. Nassano and Mrs. Moreno offered a special thanks to the second and third grade parents for help with the ‘who’ costumes for the production.

At Van Allen, the TK and Kindergarten classes presented a song and a poem, with the first grade singing and performing sign language. Second graders presented some songs including Feliz Navidad in Spanish, while the third graders did songs and excerpts from The Grinch poem. Fourth graders danced and sang with the fifth graders also singing and dancing for the crowd.

Decorations at Van Allen were provided by the local P&L Nursery and Bob Gillispie with Parks Wholesale Nursery, adding to the festive air in the school’s multipurpose room. Refreshments were also available and Van Allen presented the show twice, allowing for all parents to have the opportunity to enjoy the performance.
