Pair Of Projects Under City Review

Escalon City Planners were scheduled to learn more about two major projects in the community, as part of public hearings at the Tuesday, Aug. 13 Planning Commission meeting.

Though the session was after press time for The Times, two items on the agenda could have a significant impact in the years to come. Officials of Escalon Covenant Church are moving forward with their ‘enabling residence’ on the church property at 1155 Escalon Avenue and another proposal, from DT Retail Properties, LLC is requesting approval for construction of a 10,000 square-foot commercial building at 2400 McHenry Ave.

The building would house a Dollar Tree store and would be constructed in C2 (Community Commercial) zoning.

The Covenant Church enabling house project has been on the books for a number of years, planned as a six-bedroom home for developmentally disabled adults, providing a home and associated facilities. It would be built adjacent to the existing church on Escalon Avenue.

Planners were scheduled to review the projects and hear comment, both pro and con, during the public hearings. Once the planning commission makes a decision on the projects, those recommendations go to the full city council for consideration.
