Whether you are hungry for tri-tip or spaghetti, you can get either of them this weekend and support a good cause at the same time.

Escalon’s Sober Grad committee is hosting its annual Drive Thru tri tip dinner on Saturday, Jan. 23 at El Portal Middle School and the Escalon United Methodist Church will serve up its 27th annual Spaghetti Dinner, also on Saturday.

Hours for the ‘curbside to go’ tri tip dinner are 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and organizers said there are still tickets available. The cost of $40 includes a whole tri tip, four baked potatoes, a loaf of French bread, a bag of salad and a two-liter bottle of soda. It’s enough food for at least four people, and proceeds from this annual drive thru dinner help the committee put on the Sober Grad party for graduating Escalon High School seniors.

Debbie Leal and Tammy Alcantor are serving as co-coordinators, with a small army of volunteers working to prepare the tri tip, bake the potatoes and get the bags packed for the curbside delivery.

Alcantor said those wanting to purchase tickets can contact her at 209-480-3728 or Leal at 209-639-2513 or go to https://squareup.com/market/ehs-sober-grad/drive-thru-tri-tip-dinner.

Organizers typically plan for sales of 225 dinners and said they still had a few dozen tickets available. Diners will present the tickets as they drive up to the curb at El Portal on Saturday and the meal will be brought to them; with no need to get out of their vehicle.

The dinner is one of the main fundraisers for the Sober Grad committee each year.

Meanwhile, at the Escalon United Methodist Church, 2000 Jackson Ave., they will be serving their annual spaghetti dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. that evening.

The ‘All You Can Eat’ Spaghetti Dinner includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad with Italian dressing, garlic French bread, an ice cream cup for dessert and punch or coffee to drink. Take-out dinners are also available. Tickets are $8 for adults; children ages 5- to 12, ticket cost is $4; under 5 eat for free.

Call for more information, 209-838-2020. The church is at the corner of Highway 120 and Brayton Avenue and proceeds help finance a variety of church projects.
