Kiwanis Club Recognizes Four El Portal Standouts

Four students were highlighted recently at El Portal Middle School, named as the Kiwanis Club Students of the Month. Honored were sixth grader Gianna Bava, seventh grade student Yaneli Cruz and eighth graders April Strand and Arnulfo Jasso.

Nominated for her academic growth, positive leadership and outstanding citizenship, Gianna Bava was described as a complete student.

“She is motivated and academically driven in all subject areas,” her nomination stated. “She is an exemplary role model for her peers.”

At the seventh grade level, Yaneli Cruz was honored for her positive leadership, outstanding citizenship and academic excellence.

She strives to excel in class individually and encourages her partners to do the same, according to her nomination. She is respected by her peers and valued for her feedback and support in learning.

Eighth grader April Strand was recognized for positive leadership, outstanding citizenship and academic excellence.

She has “consistently achieved at an extremely high level” in advanced math, the nomination stated, and always gives maximum effort and strives for excellence. She also demonstrates positive leadership and outstanding citizens every day at school.

Finally, honored eighth grade student Arnulfo Jasso earned recognition for his academic growth and outstanding citizenship.

Described as a “model student,” he works hard in class and always asks critical questions, according to his nomination. Also a great team leader in class discussions, Arnulfo always contributes to class debates and is conscientious about his education.
