From craft projects to Bible stories, games and snacks, dozens of youngsters showed up for ‘Cave Quest’ this past week at the Escalon Christian Reformed Church on California Street.

Offered each day from 9 a.m. to noon, participants learned a new lesson about God’s love each day, heard Bible verses, enjoyed ‘cave’ adventures and more. One day featured the story of Jesus providing the ultimate sacrifice on the cross, and youngsters were then able to place their ‘sins’ – either a word or a drawing of something they felt they had done wrong – on a cross as a way of demonstrating the forgiveness they have received.

There were also fun and games mixed in with the Bible lessons, with a variety of activities including an obstacle course with multiple stations and teams competing to see which could get through the fastest.

Pastor Dave Vander Meulen was among the teachers at the VBS, with several additional adult group leaders overseeing the different activities and younger helpers assisting throughout the week.
