A steady stream of crafters – experienced and novice alike – made their way to the local P&L Concrete and Garden Center on Roosevelt Avenue on Saturday, site of a holiday-themed workshop.

There were a number of projects offered, from miniature terrarium ornaments to a decorative hat box centerpiece, all with the nursery touch of plants added for color and decoration.

Among those on hand were Escalon High School juniors, twin sisters Cassidy and Caitlin Pehl, choosing to make the miniature terrarium ornaments. Glitter, ‘snow’ succulents and miniature birds and beads could all be added, each one a unique creation. Cassidy said their mom, Veronica, had learned about the workshop and thought it would be fun to attend. Caitlin, hard at work creating just the right ‘mix’ for her terrarium, said her mom got it right, as she was enjoying the craft project.

“Everybody loves this one,” said Angela Cardoza of P&L, running the Saturday event. “The live ornament is always a real big hit, plus this gets people out in the garden in the winter; everybody thinks you stop then but there are still lots of things blooming.”

The Garden Center portion of the local business periodically hosts the modestly priced workshops and always has experts there to help, with information about the upcoming craft events listed in their newsletter.

Cardoza said the various projects in the latest workshop make perfect holiday gifts, or can be used to decorate your own home for the holidays as well.
