The first ‘official’ shovels full of dirt to start the McHenry Avenue improvement project were turned on Monday afternoon by a gathering of San Joaquin and Stanislaus County officials, top photo, with the project to include replacement of the bridge over the Stanislaus River that connects the two counties. On the Escalon side of the bridge, work will also include replacement of a bridge over an SSJID canal and improvements to a portion of McHenry including installation of a left turn lane and the replacement of the current temporary roundabout with a traffic light at the intersection of McHenry and River. Also on hand to offer remarks was Congressman Jeff Denham, side photo, who represents Stanislaus County and portions of San Joaquin County.
