Over 175 Escalon High School graduates – out of a class of just over 200 – turned out to enjoy their final night together as Cougars, attending the Sober Grad celebration put on in the EHS gym.

Several activities were in the gym and other fun, including a rock climbing wall, laser tag, mechanical bull and obstacle courses, were set up outside on the tennis courts. The huge turnout of graduates pleased the Sober Grad committee, with the goal to provide a fun, safe, sober environment for the students on their gradation night.

“It’s nice to hang out with everybody,” said Sierra Hernandez. “I had the most fun learning to play blackjack. What’s nice is we’re all together.”

Justin Branco was kicking back with some food and taking in the activity.

“Just knowing that I accomplished high school and I can relax a little,” he said of what he was enjoying.

“Being on my own now, going to MJC,” added Jacob Broome of what lies ahead for him as a high school graduate.

Luga Mendoza enjoyed riding the mechanical bull while Josie Redberg was having fun tackling the climbing wall and trying to beat her boyfriend – Logan Widmer – to the top.

“It’s awesome,” Widmer added of all the activities.

“It’s also fun because it’s the last thing we’re doing together as a class,” Redberg said.

The ticket price gets the graduates a full night of fun activities, food, beverages and the chance for a variety of prizes. Winning the laptop computer was Ulises Ramirez.
