Every year, from about March to early May, FFA members from around the state of California compete in the different Career Development competitions that are held at colleges and universities throughout the state.

Escalon FFA kicked off the 2017 Season at the UC Davis Field Day on Friday and Saturday. This Field Day, hosted by the agriculture students and professors at Davis as well as industry professionals, gives FFA members the opportunity to compete against other members and earn awards based on their achievements. These field days are one of the many ways FFA members are encouraged fulfill the FFA motto by “Learning to Do” and “Doing to Learn” as they are given the opportunity to learn skills that can be used in a future career in Agriculture.

Escalon FFA had 33 participants at UC Davis this past weekend who competed in nine Career Development Events: Livestock Judging, Parliamentary Procedure, Ag Mechanics, Agronomy, Best Informed Greenhand, Farm Power, Floriculture, Horse Judging, and Veterinary Science. In the end, the Agronomy team walked away with 4th High Team and the Farm Power team with 2nd High Team.

We are all very proud of everyone who competed this weekend and can’t wait to see how everyone will do at the coming field days at CSU Chico, Merced College, Cosumnes River College, Modesto Junior College, Fresno State, and finally, at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
