Three middle school students from El Portal have been recognized as the latest Students of the Month through the Escalon Kiwanis Club program.

Named for January were Ainsley Salazar, Kelly Kroon and Austin Terra.

Sixth grader Ainsley Salazar was nominated by teacher Mrs. Maddox for positive leadership and outstanding citizenship.

“Ainsley has been selected as student of the month for her positivity and hard working attitude,” said Maddox. “She is a great role model for her peers, shows respect towards others, and is a very optimistic person.

“Ainsley is a joy to have in class.”

A seventh grader, Kelly Kroon was chosen by teacher Mr. Tanis for outstanding citizenship and her artistic excellence.

“Kelly is a joy to have in in class because she is a very polite and respectful individual,” said Tanis. “She has done a great job on all of her art projects, and she was also the second place winner of the “Peace Poster” contest.

Tanis also offered the recommendation for eighth grade student Austin Terra, citing him for his artistic craftsmanship and outstanding citizenship.

“Austin has proven to be a great art student this year by turning in each project completed with excellent craftsmanship,” said Tanis. “He is also very respectful of his peers and his teachers.”

The students are honored at a Kiwanis Club breakfast for their selection.
