The Escalon/Farmington Community Garden Club is accepting new members and is planning its first meeting for Thursday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Escalon Library. Meetings will be on the second Thursday of the month. All interested are encouraged to attend and grow with the Garden Club. The library is at 1540 Second St., Escalon.

On Thursday, Feb. 8, AAUW member Evangelina Paoluccio, a graduate of University of the Pacific and the Engineering Manager at Inventive Resources Inc., will talk to American Association of University Women (AAUW) Oakdale-Riverbank-Escalon Branch members and guests about a pilot project the company is involved in using non-chemical Ultra Violet light to kill invasive aquatic plants in the heavily infested marina at Lake Tahoe. The dinner meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Papapolloni Bistro at 1214 W. F St., in Oakdale. Reservations are needed. Those interested in attending may call (209) 847-0271 for information and directions.

Sign-ups are still available for the Saturday, Feb. 10 Escalon Educational Foundation second annual color run. Hosted at El Portal Middle School, the event features both a 5k run and a one-mile run/walk. Starting at 8 a.m., the start and finish line are at El Portal Middle School, 805 First St., Escalon. Cost to participate is $25 for the one mile fun run, $35 for the 5k. Those interested can register online at active.com or register at any Escalon Unified School office. Bring the young ones to the Escalon Library for Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. each Thursday, with stories, songs and activities offered for youngsters and their adult chaperones. Later on Thursdays, older kids can attend Makerspace, with supervised activities beginning at 4 p.m. The library is at 1540 Second St.

U.S. Representative Jeff Denham has announced Mobile District Office (MDO) hours for the month of February, where 10th district residents can get help with specific casework or ask questions. On Tuesday, Feb. 13 the Congressman’s MDO is scheduled to make a stop in Escalon, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Escalon City Hall, 2060 McHenry Ave. The stop is being hosted in conjunction with Assemblyman Heath Flora’s office. The MDOs are hosted by staff and, when possible, by Rep. Denham. Staff members are available to assist 10th district residents with casework on matters including Medicare, Veteran’s Affairs, Social Security, the Internal Revenue Service and other federal agencies.

Marriage ceremonies will be offered on Valentine’s Day at the historic McHenry Mansion at 906 15th St., Modesto. “Marriage at the Mansion” offers each couple a romantic experience that will take them back in time. All ceremonies are individualized. Couples must sign up in advance. Ceremonies will start at 9 a.m. and run through 4 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Marriage licenses must be purchased and appointments made in advance at the Stanislaus County Clerk Recorder’s Office at 1021 I St., downtown Modesto. TOPS, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, meets every week on Mondays at 9 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church in Oakdale, 1480 Poplar. Visitors are always welcome and the first meeting is free. The local REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club gathers for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 14. Golden Agers weekly dances are open to those 50 and older from throughout the Central Valley at the Riverbank Community Center. Doors open Wednesdays at 9 a.m.; the center is at 3600 Santa Fe St., and first time guests are admitted free. The annual membership fee is $12 and each Wednesday members pay $5 and non-members can enjoy a few hours of music and dancing for $6.

Registration is now open for the Welcome Home Veterans Bike and Car Show, scheduled for April 14. All makes, models and years are welcome. The show will be held at the Tuolumne County Sheriff Posse Grounds, Rawhide Road, Jamestown. Entry is $30 in advance, $35 after April 6, includes commemorative pin (first 300) and People’s Choice judging.
