Datebook lists upcoming events and items of interest for residents of Escalon, Farmington, Collegeville and the surrounding area.

 

Members of the Escalon-Farmington Community Garden Club will meet on Thursday, June 7 at the Escalon Public Library, 1540 Second St., Escalon. Open to all interested in learning more about gardening and sharing experiences, the session begins at 1 p.m. The monthly meeting rotates between the Escalon Library and the Farmington United Methodist Church.

Mobile District Office hours are planned in Escalon through the office of U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock.) The MDO is where 10th district residents can get help with specific casework or ask questions. Representatives are available to assist 10th district residents with casework on matters including Medicare, Veteran’s Affairs, Social Security, the Internal Revenue Service and other federal agencies. Slated for Tuesday, June 12, the session in Escalon is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Escalon City Hall, 2060 McHenry Ave., Escalon. The session is being hosted in conjunction with Assemblyman Heath Flora’s office.

A limited number of ‘pre-cruise’ car show nights leading up to the annual Escalon Lions Club Autumn Cruise in September will take place this summer in Escalon’s Main Street Park. Shows are scheduled on Friday evenings, June 15 and July 20.

The third annual Not Forgotten Classic Car and Motorcycle Show is on the schedule for Saturday, June 16 at the 50’s Roadhouse at 18341 Kennedy Road, Knights Ferry. Entry fee is $25 per vehicle and admission is free to the public. Contact Duke Cooper at 209-863-8480 for more information or to register. The event begins at 8 a.m. and will go off, rain or shine. The show is in honor of Marine Cpl. Michael D. Anderson, Jr. Classic cars and motorcycles of all types are welcome.

All are invited to the weekly meetings of TOPS, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, 1034 that gathers each Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar Ave., Oakdale. The group features help with weight loss in a supportive setting. Residents of Oakdale, Riverbank, Escalon and beyond are welcome to attend. Call Audrey Oliver at 209-765-7838 for information. The local REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club gathers for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 13. Golden Agers weekly dances are open to those 50 and older from throughout the Central Valley at the Riverbank Community Center. Doors open Wednesdays at 9 a.m.; the center is at 3600 Santa Fe St., and first time guests are admitted free. The annual membership fee is $12 and each Wednesday members pay $5 and non-members can enjoy a few hours of music and dancing for $6.
