Taking the oath of office at a Thursday night meeting of the Escalon City Council will be incumbent Jeff Laugero and newly elected Walt Murken, both voted on to the dais in November. Murken had previously served on the panel and Laugero is completing a term as Mayor Pro Tem. Their oaths of office will come following announcement of the election outcome as part of the regular meeting.

The session is serving as the regular second meeting of the month for the council but due to conflicts, was moved from its originally scheduled Monday, Dec. 19 date up to the Thursday, Dec. 15 session. The meeting will also start at 6:30 p.m. instead of the traditional 7 p.m. start.

Council members are also scheduled to consider an interim emergency ordinance banning recreational marijuana in response to the November passage of Prop. 64.

A presentation to outgoing longtime council member and current Mayor Gary Haskin is scheduled as well, with Haskin completing 20 years of service to the city.

Following that, Laugero and Murken will take their oaths and the council will choose the new Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem.

The meeting will be in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 2060 McHenry Ave.
