The days of summer vacation may be winding down for local youngsters – school will be back in session on Wednesday, Aug. 8 – but the final weekend of ‘vacation’ for the community has many events on the schedule.

On Saturday, Aug. 4, kids can enjoy the Science Saturday gathering at the Escalon Public Library, with the program featuring the making of Bristlebots starting at noon.

Also on Saturday, celebrate summer with a traditional treat, with the annual Ice Cream Social at the Escalon United Methodist Church on Jackson Avenue. Hosted each August, the date for this year’s event is Saturday, Aug. 4 and the social runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.., featuring homemade ice cream and a variety of sweet treats. All are welcome. There is no charge to attend but donations are gratefully accepted.

Round out the busy weekend on Sunday, Aug. 5, as the Escalon Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Sunday in the Park with a summertime theme. Scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a petting zoo, mural painting, a ring toss game, sidewalk chalk area, photo opportunities, music and more. Members of the Escalon Historical Society will be there to service up popcorn and open up the historic caboose for tours.

EscalonFIT will be doing a 30-minute family workout prior to the start of the family fun day at 11 a.m.; contact them for details at 209-838-9915.
