From the musicians and dancers on stage to the s’mores pits and some unexpected ‘snow’ fall, there was a feeling of celebration in the air on Saturday.

Escalon gathered for its annual Christmas on Main with a holiday light parade, a visit from Santa, food, vendors, and more.

The weather was picture perfect for the event, with no raindrops in sight and a cool, clear evening. The parade lasted a full half hour, with honors going to the Strand’s Ace Hardware float as the best in the event. Grand Marshals were Danny and Diane Guadagnolo from D’Boni’s Pizza and emcee was Robert Swift.

Nearly all the entries tossed out candies and Mrs. Claus, accompanying the Lions Club contingent, also had some small gifts to share.

A snow making machine in a corner of the city’s Main Street Park made for some fun for the kids and the ‘Giving Trees’ sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce to benefit local families were brightly decorated with ornaments, purchased by attendees and placed on the trees.

Elsewhere, families joined in to roast marshmallows for s’mores, with the Chamber also providing the kits for ‘Sheila’s S’mores’ – named in honor of the late longtime Chamber member and former Times reporter Sheila Arellano. Festivities began at midafternoon and continued on into the evening.
