In the spirit of giving, members of the Escalon High School Interact Club are hoping high school students, staff and members of the community will be able to give a little on Thursday.
The club, in cooperation with Delta Blood Bank, is hosting a Christmas Blood Drive in the EHS Theater from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8. While the drive is geared primarily toward students, organizers said adults and non-high school students are also welcome to donate. Those planning to give should get a visitor’s pass from the high school office before heading to the theater.
Sponsors of the drive include Hula’s, Mountain Mike’s and the Escalon Youth Center. All donors will receive a giveaway from one of the sponsors as a way of thanking them for donating. The entire process, including registration, a brief health screening, the blood donation and a required 15-minute rest in the refreshment area, takes about an hour.
A valid photo ID with date of birth is required to make a donation. Blood donors should be in general good health, at least 17 years of age and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. Students 16 years old can donate but most have parental permission and weigh a minimum of 115 pounds.
All donations help Delta Blood Bank keep hospitals in a multi-county area supplied with blood and each donation can help save the lives of up to three people.
