The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin a highway improvement project that will repave 34 miles of State Route 108 and State Route120 in Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.

The project will begin at Lancaster Road in eastern Stanislaus County and continue to the SR-49/SR-108 junction in Tuolumne County, as well as to Moccasin Creek Bridge on SR-120 in southern Tuolumne County. This project will extend the service life of the existing pavement and improve efficiency and safety for motorists traveling on these highways.

Work is scheduled to start Sunday, March 25, with the project expected to be finished in October 2018. Night work will typically be Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m., with day work usually from Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday’s work will typically run from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Motorists can expect lane closures and one-way traffic control, with flaggers handling the traffic flow, and 10-minute delays during the project. Those planning to travel in the area are asked to leave extra time to reach their destination, and be aware of vehicles and workers adjacent to the roadway.

This $20.3 million project has been awarded to George Reed Inc. of Modesto.

Due to Senate Bill 1, more projects like this one are underway and in the works across the state to improve roadways. Work on this paving project is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic, weather, equipment, materials or construction-related issues.
