Busy Weekend Planned For Escalon Community

Some 85 yard sale locations are on the map for this Saturday’s annual citywide yard sale in Escalon … and organizers anticipated a few last minute additions on Tuesday afternoon, after The Times went to press.

The maps that list all the locations for the sales will be available at businesses throughout the community starting on Thursday, Sept. 29 and will also be placed on a rack outside City Hall on McHenry Avenue for pick up on Saturday. This year marks the 24th annual citywide yard sale and hours for the popular autumn event are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Along with individual addresses listed on the map for sales, there will be sale spaces in the city’s Main Street Park, offered by the Chamber of Commerce, for those that live outside the city or don’t have room at their home for the sale items they want to display.

Traditionally, local residents have used the citywide sale day as a way to do some ‘fall cleaning’ and shoppers come in from the Bay Area, the foothills, Sacramento and beyond to take advantage of the opportunity to find treasures.

After the flurry of activity on Saturday, there’s more to come on Sunday, Oct. 2.

That is the date for the final Sunday in the Park celebration of the year scheduled by the Escalon Chamber of Commerce. There will be a homemade costume contest and pumpkin carving as the day has a Halloween-Harvest Fest theme, with free pumpkins provided to kids for the carving. Festivities in the park will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the costume contest judging starting at noon.

There will also be music, crafts, free popcorn and fun for the family; all are encouraged to attend and support the Chamber of Commerce in their final ‘Sunday’ park fun day for the community.
