The start of the New Year has brought some new excitement to Escalon’s P&L Nursery, with upcoming demonstrations and a new ‘featured artist’ exhibit.

First artist to be featured at the nursery and garden center is Lucy Wright Rivers, who has many of her mosaics on display.

Information provided regarding the artist note that she makes mosaics, cement sculpture, and wire and bead tapestries. Wrights Rivers also teaches art at local schools and has overseen multiple mosaic projects at the rural elementary school sites of Farmington, Collegeville and Vista High School in this area, as well as at locations in Sacramento.

Along with the public art projects, she also works on private commissions. More information is available by visiting her website, lucyruthwrightrivers.com.

Also, the nursery will host its first Saturday class later this month.

A free Rose Pruning Demonstration will be given by Jack Espeland on Saturday, Jan. 24. Session 1 runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and Session 2 will be from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Espeland has 30 years in the nursery industry. He has been a rose grower for 12 years and is an expert in growth and disease treatment. Attendees are asked to bring pruners and gloves; if you do not have any, P&L will have some available for use. All attendees will also receive $10 off any rose purchase that day.
