You still have time to sign up and pay to have colored cornstarch thrown at you.

For many, that’s exactly what they plan to do on Saturday, Feb. 10 as the Escalon Educational Foundation hosts its second annual “color run” to benefit the foundation.

Hosted at El Portal Middle School, the event features both a 5k run and a one-mile run/walk.

Serving as one of the event coordinators is Escalon Educational Foundation President April Adams, who said organizers are looking forward to another good year.

“So far we have over 200 runners,” Adams said of the early bird registrations, those signing up by the deadline to guarantee a special event T-shirt. “We know there will be more. Last year, it was just way beyond our expectations.”

Starting at 8 a.m., the start and finish line are at El Portal Middle School, 805 First St., Escalon. Cost to participate is $25 for the one mile fun run, $35 for the 5k. Those interested can register online at active.com or register at any Escalon Unified School office.

“We are still taking runners and will even on the day of the event, there’s just not a guarantee that you will get a shirt,” explained Adams.

The shirts, with sponsor logos and names, had to be pre-ordered.

Early packet and T-shirt pick up will be Friday, Feb. 9 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at D’Boni’s Pizza, 2249 Jackson Ave., Escalon. For those that choose to eat at D’Boni’s when they pick up their packet or those just dining there for a Friday night out, mention the Escalon Educational Foundation and D’Boni’s will donate a portion of the proceeds to the EEF. Race Day packet and T-shirt pick up (and any late runner registrations) will be from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at El Portal on Feb. 10.

“This year we will have more stations,” Adams added of piling on the color for the runners. The cornstarch is non-toxic, offers bright colors, and can take a few times in the washing machine to come out of clothing.

But it’s all in good fun, said Adams, and proceeds benefit a variety of educational programs, from scholarships to attendance incentive programs and more.

Main sponsors of the second annual Color Run include the Escalon Lions Club, Realty Design Associates, Quality Service, Inc., Thompson Ranch, Escalon Sportsman’s Club, Pacific Southwest Irrigation, Noah’s Water, D’Boni’s Pizza, and McGehee Paving, Inc.
