From learning the products of California to getting a chance for an up close look at some farm animals, the students at Valley Home School (kindergarten through eighth grade) were busy all day Thursday, with presentations from two different groups of FFA students.

Oakdale High School FFA sent students to work with the youngsters in the morning and Escalon High FFA made a visit there in the afternoon. The Valley Home students visited a variety of afternoon stations hosted by the Escalon FFA, ranging from vegetable growing to floral arranging to learning more about the FFA organization itself.

They also had the chance to plant and take home a couple of tomato plants and learned what makes up the soil in the Central Valley and the crops that grow here.

“I just like being able to interact with the kids,” said senior Ashley Grass. “We let them know that agriculture is more than farming.”

Junior Julia Orlando shared the ‘dirt’ on the Central Valley soil, which she said includes a lot of sand.

“It does relate a lot to agriculture and how we grow our crops,” she said of providing that information to students.
