Seeing a slight uptick at the pump, average gasoline prices in Modesto rose 6.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.17/gallon as of Aug. 4, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 3.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 16.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.69/gallon while the most expensive was $5.09, a difference of $1.40/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $2.85 while the highest was $6.79, a difference of $3.94/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has risen 1.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.11/gallon on Aug. 4. The national average is up 1.3 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 32.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
The national average price of diesel has decreased 0.1 cents in the last week and stands at $3.70 per gallon.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.38, up 16.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.22; Oakland - $4.50, up 1.8 cents from $4.48; and San Jose - $4.47, up 4.6 cents per gallon from $4.42/gallon.
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back ten years show the highest Modesto average of $5.28 was recorded on Aug. 4, 2022 and the lowest of $2.45 per gallon was in 2016. Highest U.S average recorded on Aug. 4 was $4.09 per gallon in 2022, lowest was $2.12, on Aug. 4, 2016.
“It was another relatively tame week at the pump, with the national average inching up for the second straight week as oil prices briefly touched the $70 per barrel mark before sliding late in the week on news that OPEC+ will raise oil production again in September,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “While price cycling led gas prices in some states to see double-digit increases or decreases, most saw only modest fluctuations.”
