Closing out the year with some closures, operations should get back to a normal routine next week.

Escalon city offices will be closed on Friday, Dec. 31 for the New Year's observance and will reopen for regular business hours on Monday, Jan. 3.

The CHP will conduct a 'Maximum Enforcement Period' holiday enforcement effort during the New Year's weekend, which begins Friday, Dec. 31 at 6 p.m., and continues through 11:59 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011.

CHP officers, in addition to San Joaquin County sheriff's deputies and local law enforcement officers, will be out in force for the New Year's Eve holiday, looking to crack down on drunk drivers. Motorists are reminded to designate a sober driver before heading out to New Year's parties.

Also, remember to buckle up and, if necessary, adjust your speed for driving in rainy or foggy conditions.

Weather forecasters are calling for partly cloudy conditions for Friday, Dec. 31 for the New Year's Eve holiday and then a 40 percent chance of rain both Saturday, New Year's Day and Sunday, Jan. 2 with highs through the period in the low 50s.
