Escalon Fire Department, Escalon Community Ambulance and CHP units responded to the scene of the crash, which involved a tomato truck and another vehicle. No information was available from the CHP at press time regarding the incident, but the driver of the second vehicle was taken from the scene by air ambulance, transported to Memorial Medical Center. Officials also reported a minor tomato spill at the scene.

Other calls over the long holiday weekend, which signals the official end of summer, included an early morning arrest for driving under the influence on Sunday, Sept. 6 by Escalon Police. The 73-year-old Escalon man was stopped in the area of Edmart and David. A warrant arrest on Saturday morning saw a 27-year-old woman cited on the $10,000 misdemeanor traffic warrant out of the Escalon Police Department. She was arrested in the 2100 block of Jackson, cited on the warrant and released.

An early morning domestic dispute on Friday resulted in an arrest as well. Officers responded to the 1100 block of San Miguel to a report of a disturbance and subsequently arrested Raymond Munoz, 27, of Escalon on suspicion of felony inflicting corporal injury on a spouse. He was booked at San Joaquin County Jail.

There were a couple of thefts over the weekend, with two different purse snatches from vehicles and officers also handled several complaints of loud parties on Monday, Sept. 7 to close out the Labor Day weekend.
