This week, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) was appointed to serve on the House Committee on Education and Labor for the 116th Congress. The goal of this committee is to ensure federal policy effectively empowers students in and outside the classroom so that the United States leads the way in preparing the next generation of leaders. The committee also oversees initiatives that strengthen the U.S. economy by empowering the workforce and overseeing labor initiatives aimed at improving health care, job training, pensions, and all issues impacting the wellbeing of employees in the workplace.

Rep. Harder said he sought appointment to this committee because it will allow him to utilize his background in education and business to bring better paying jobs to the Central Valley and provide local communities with state-of-the-art workforce development training.

“Serving on the Education and Labor Committee allows me to directly advocate for the Central Valley on the issues that matter to our families – better paying jobs, worker’s health care access, retirement readiness, job training and adult education, and the success of the next generation of leaders,” Harder said. “I am honored to have this opportunity.”

A businessman and former educator at Modesto Junior College, Harder said he will fight for policies that boost student performance and grow the economy in the district.
