Google Trip Planner Available For Transit

Local data for the City of Escalon is now included in Google Transit, www.google.com/transit. This means that a passenger can plan their eTrans transit trip from anywhere in Escalon to destinations in neighboring Modesto by simply using the trip planner box. This box is also accessible from www.cityofescalon.org and then click on transit.

It is possible to enter departure and destination addresses or intersections to create customized itineraries, complete with walking directions to and from bus stops, as well as transfer times and instructions, even between different bus systems.

"It's very similar to the turn-by-turn driving directions that many Internet users are already familiar with," said John Andoh, Transit Coordinator for the City of Escalon.

Stanislaus County transit operators are coming online in the near future, Andoh said, which can help enhance the users' experience by including route and schedule information for Modesto Area Express, Stanislaus Regional Transit, Ceres Area Transit and Bus Line Service of Turlock. Passengers would be able to get trip planning information to destinations as far as Merced. The same will occur in San Joaquin County, with the inclusion of San Joaquin RTD and Lodi GrapeLine by this summer. Passengers would be able to go as far north as Lodi or as far west as the San Francisco Bay Area and Monterey Bay area since other transit systems in those areas are part of Google Transit.
