From "Doc Alders, Farmington's Lone Eagle" Reminiscence: During World War II, Doc was working on the most advanced fighter aircraft of that time and making a vital contribution to the war effort. Meanwhile, back in Farmington, the war had become quite evident. Frank and Eva Krebs owned the Soda Fountain. Eva ran the Soda Fountain while Frank hired out to local farms. Their daughter Helen Krebs Burke recalled that, during the war, military convoys came through on a regular basis. The Orvis Ranch and other cattle ranches in the foot hills east of Farmington opened their land for military training maneuvers. Eva Krebs fed the troops at the Soda Fountain when the truck convoys came through. The Krebs Soda Fountain frequently became a makeshift mess hall as part of the war effort.

A meeting in regards to the Farmington Post Office was held Thursday. The discussion and concern was mainly about whether the Post Office will close. Only the hours are potentially being reduced down to six hours. There were 364 surveys sent out and only 135 were returned. After their review of the surveys that were returned, and taking into account Postal Service operational needs, the retail hours will be likely, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with lunch from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. While the window hours will change, there will still be access to the Post Office boxes.

If you still have your survey you are encouraged to fill it out and send it in.
