Farmers Market Ready For Downtown Return

Preparing for a limited run this summer, the Escalon Chamber of Commerce is putting together a Farmers Market, to be hosted in the city’s Main Street Park.

Coordinating the market will be Chamber Ambassador Megan McNinch, who said they are planning the market for the second Thursday of the month, starting on May 12.

“We are having it in May, June and July,” McNinch said of starting small, hosting the event just once a month this summer.

The goal, she added, is to slowly grow the event with hopes of expanding it next summer.

“It will run from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.,” McNinch said, with the Chamber offering vendor slots to Chamber members for free. Other businesses will pay a $10 fee.

“We want to keep it affordable,” the ambassador explained of the small registration fee. “We’re looking for people that grow their own produce, make their own crafts.”

Already lined up are some produce and juice vendors, a couple of different local flower booths, food being served up by Tacos de Nieve and Suds and Floats, among others, as well as face painting and some crafters.

There are no openings for additional food booths in the first market – coming up next week – but McNinch said they are still looking for more craftspeople to join in.

“We just want to see how these three go,” she explained of the May, June and July markets. “We have some live music lined up. We will have some hay bales set up by the Main Street stage so people can sit and eat.”

Additional market dates are June 9 and July 14.
