With this year’s edition of the Great Valley Writing Camp scheduled later this month, coordinator Sally Hale said plans are being put in place to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone, participants and teachers alike.

“The camp is for TK-seventh grade,” Hale said of students that can take part in the immersive two-week camp.

Along with teachers who work with the students, there are volunteers to help out as well, the majority of them former camp attendees.

The camp dates are Monday, July 14 through Friday, July 25; camp will be hosted at Dent Elementary School and hours are 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Cost is $250 per student; there are no discounts unless the parents are participating teachers who can bring two children free of charge.

“We do have scholarships and parents can complete an application at the library,” Hale said. “We are back at Dent this year and we will decide on a theme Monday, July 7, at our first meeting of the teachers. If any more teachers would be interested, we would welcome them at that time.”

Teachers receive up to four units from CSU Stanislaus for their participation in the summer writing camp.

On the final day, students showcase the work they have done during the two-week camp.

“Our Open House will be from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25. The public is invited to celebrate our students and their work at that time,” said Hale.

The Great Valley Writing Camp is designed to teach young authors new writing strategies and skills while immersing them in the writing process.

Contact Hale at shale@escalonusd.org if you know a student or teacher who might be interested in taking part in the camp.

“You can find the camp registration information and link on our Facebook page, Great Valley Writing Camps,” Hale added.
